Position Overview

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is dedicated to providing comprehensive emotional and practical assistance to individuals affected by sexual violence. Our Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) offers a safe space for those who have experienced sexual assault, ensuring they receive the necessary support and care.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Crisis Support Specialist, available during out-of-hours shifts.

Role Responsibilities

The Crisis Support Specialist will be responsible for delivering immediate crisis intervention and assistance to individuals visiting the SARC. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing 24/7 support to individuals affected by sexual abuse, regardless of their decision to report to authorities.
  • Offering guidance and information, both in-person and via telephone, to help individuals make informed choices regarding medical treatment, forensic examinations, and police involvement.
  • Educating individuals about self-referral options and available services, ensuring they are treated with sensitivity and respect.
  • Advocating for individuals as necessary, ensuring their dignity and preferences are honored while involving them in the decision-making process.
  • Assisting the Sexual Offences Examiner during forensic medical examinations.
  • Facilitating the collection of forensic evidence while maintaining the integrity of the evidence chain.
  • Conducting forensic medical examinations at various locations to meet the needs of individuals.
  • Ensuring the examination suite is forensically cleaned to uphold the integrity of the SARC in accordance with established accreditation standards.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • A degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations in healthcare or victim support environments.
  • Experience supporting victims of crime.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential knowledge includes:

  • Understanding of domestic and sexual violence through work with statutory or voluntary organizations.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding policies and practices.
