Job Title: Manual Machinist

Job Description

Reporting to the Fabrication Supervisor, the machinist will be expected to be flexible and multi-skilled in various metalwork techniques. This role will involve supporting all departments throughout the site, primarily responsible for operating the lathe and milling machine, alongside some welding and fabricating of various items using MIG and TIG welding plants.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out day-to-day fabrication of parts ranging from small brackets to oil catch tanks, propshaft flanges, and parts for large test rigs from various sources and customers.
  • Solid skill base in use of Lathe and Milling Machines.
  • Welding using various techniques (Aluminum and Steel).
  • Able to read technical drawings.
  • Vehicle body shell modifications and reworks.
  • Writing up completed work tickets to record in detail work carried out.
  • Liaising with engineering staff regarding work requests.
  • Acting in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times.
Requirements

Formal fabrication or welding qualifications are advantageous, and a completed relevant apprenticeship is required. Experience in General Turning and milling, welding (TIG, MIG) including aluminum, and good problem-solving skills are essential. Good general IT skills, including MS Word and Excel, are also required.

Flexibility, self-drive, and reliability are essential, as well as good communication skills. Knowledge of CNC-based machinery would be an advantage, as would experience with prototype and one-off work, automotive experience, and a strong awareness of Health and Safety regulations.
