Burnley, Lancashire, United Kingdom East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust Full time
Position Overview

At East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, our Healthcare Support Specialists play a vital role in assisting every patient throughout their hospital experience. This includes maintaining a pristine environment and ensuring that specialized cleaning tasks are executed promptly to uphold the exceptional standards expected in our facilities.

You will accompany patients during their entire hospital journey, making this a challenging yet profoundly fulfilling role. Your efforts will significantly impact thousands of patients annually, whether you are engaged in our medical, surgical, or emergency departments.

We anticipate high levels of commitment and attendance from all team members. If you seek full-time, part-time, or weekend shifts, we offer the flexibility to adapt to your evolving personal needs.

Core Responsibilities

Central to the hospital's operations, our Patient Services team diligently works to ensure a safe, clean, and infection-free environment while facilitating the safe transport of patients, thereby enhancing patient flow throughout the facility.

The Healthcare Support Specialist role merges traditional domestic and porter duties into a single position, allowing for a more streamlined service to patients in our wards.

Effective communication in both written and spoken English is essential for all team members. You must be comfortable using technology such as computers, telephones, and radios, while engaging with individuals in person, utilizing your training to deliver the appropriate service to each patient at the right moment.

Our services extend across the entire hospital, so you may find yourself working in various settings, including offices, wards, clinics, or hallways. Occasionally, you may be required to assist at other locations to provide support during peak times or increased demand.

Benefits of Joining Our Organization

As the largest single team within the Trust, we celebrate and promote diversity, actively support flexible working arrangements, and prioritize the well-being of our staff—whether they remain with us for five, ten, or fifty years. With some of the most attractive work-related benefits available in the region, including affordable parking, gym memberships, union memberships, and year-round wellness initiatives, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust offers a compelling package for every team member.

Our Burnley team is on the brink of transformation. One potential outcome may involve our Healthcare Support Specialists assuming the full scope of the job description, which includes patient transfers within the hospital and providing compassionate support for the deceased during their transition to the mortuary. The Patient Services model at our Trust is unique, integrating the traditional roles of Domestic and Porter to enhance patient flow, improve communication, and create a flexible workforce to meet the demands of an evolving healthcare environment.
