NLP and LLM Research Scientist - Lead in Applied AI

The Machine Learning Center of Excellence at J.P. Morgan Chase Bank seeks a talented individual to apply advanced machine learning techniques to a diverse array of intricate challenges, encompassing natural language processing, speech analytics, time series analysis, reinforcement learning, and recommendation systems.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative atmosphere, working closely with business units, technology experts, and compliance partners to implement solutions effectively. A strong enthusiasm for machine learning, along with a commitment to continuous learning, research, and experimentation in emerging technologies, is essential. Candidates should possess substantial expertise in Deep Learning, practical implementation experience, and strong analytical capabilities, coupled with a deep-seated motivation to excel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and assess innovative machine learning methodologies through self-directed study, participation in leading industry conferences, experimentation, and engagement in our knowledge-sharing community.
  • Design and develop cutting-edge machine learning models to address real-world challenges, applying them to tasks such as NLP, speech recognition, time-series forecasting, and recommendation systems.
  • Collaborate with various partner teams, including Business, Technology, Product Management, Legal, Compliance, Strategy, and Business Management, to ensure successful deployment of solutions.
  • Lead firm-wide initiatives by constructing extensive frameworks to expedite the application of machine learning models across multiple business sectors.
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Strong foundation in NLP, speech recognition, analytics, and personalization/recommendation, along with hands-on experience and a solid grasp of machine learning and deep learning methodologies.
  • PhD in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, Optimization, or Data Science, or an MS with significant industry or research experience.
  • Proficient in machine learning and deep learning toolkits (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, Pandas).
  • Ability to design experiments and training frameworks, and to define and assess metrics for model performance aligned with business objectives.
  • Experience with large-scale data and scalable model training, along with strong communication skills to convey technical concepts and results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Exhibit scientific reasoning with the capacity to innovate and work both independently and collaboratively in team settings.
  • Detail-oriented, curious, and driven by complex analytical challenges.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Solid background in Mathematics and Statistics, with familiarity in the financial services sector and continuous integration practices.
  • Knowledge of search/ranking, Reinforcement Learning, or Meta Learning.
  • Experience with A/B testing and data-driven product development, cloud-native deployment in large-scale distributed environments, and the ability to develop and troubleshoot production-quality code.
  • Published research in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or Reinforcement Learning in reputable conferences or journals.
