London, Greater London, United Kingdom Logistics UK Full time
About Logistics UK

Logistics UK, formerly the Freight Transport Association, is one of the largest business groups in the UK, representing the entire industry with members from the road, rail, sea, and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers whose businesses depend on the efficient movement of goods.

Logistics UK plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth movement of goods across borders and through the supply chain, directly impacting over 7 million people employed in making, selling, and moving the goods that affect everyone everywhere.

With Brexit, technology, and other disruptive forces driving changes in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK PLC.

Job Summary

As a Non-Executive Director, you will be expected to act as an independent and objective member of the organisation's main Board. You will provide insight, expertise, and oversight of the strategic direction of the organisation. You will report to the President of Logistics UK.

Responsibilities

Non-Executive Directors are members of the organisation's main Board of Directors, without day-to-day operational responsibilities. NEDs provide independent oversight, strategic guidance, strong governance, and uphold boardroom best practices. A NED will oversee, constructively challenge, and hold management to account in their implementation of strategy within the organisation's system of governance and risk appetite.

Requirements
  • Applications are sought from senior executives (or Non-Executives) from organisations that are current members of Logistics UK.
  • A background in one of the following areas is preferred:

-IT/Digital technology development in a B2B environment.

-Experience in either rail logistics or manufacturing.

  • Strong understanding of business operations, finance, and corporate strategy.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to strong corporate governance practice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other Board members and executives.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to provide independent, objective advice.
  • Ability to devote sufficient time to the work of the Board, and additional participate in Committee activities if required.
Time Requirement

It is anticipated that the successful candidate would be required to spend approximately 5-7 days per year, to include preparation for, and attendance at, Board meetings. However, more time may be required depending on the activities of the organisation from time to time.

The initial term of office would be three years, subject to performance, and may be renewed thereafter with the approval of the President.

The NED position is an unremunerated, voluntary position. Small stipends are paid to the Chairs of Committee and the Senior Independent Director, but not to NEDs that do not hold these positions.
