Manufacturing Engineer Job Description

Murray Myers Limited is seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join their team. As a key member of the manufacturing team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance to ensure the efficient and effective production of high-quality products.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing processes, including machining, mechanical assembly, welding, and electronic/electrical assembly. They will be able to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and will have a proven track record of improving manufacturing processes and reducing waste.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide technical guidance and support to the manufacturing team to ensure the efficient and effective production of high-quality products.
  2. Develop and implement process improvements to reduce waste and improve productivity.
  3. Collaborate with the design team to ensure that designs are manufacturable and meet quality requirements.
  4. Generate manufacturing documentation, including manufacturing inspection and test plans (MITP) and route cards.
  5. Input, sanitize, control, and update manufacturing data in the in-house production control and MRP systems.
  6. Identify and document waste and non-value-added activities and implement changes to eliminate or minimize them.
  7. Support the tendering process as required, including the development of manufacturing strategies.
  8. Raise and contribute to closing out non-conformance reports (NCRs) using analytical methods such as the 5 Whys, DMAIC, and root cause analysis.
Requirements:
  1. At least 5 years' industrial experience in a manufacturing role, with a strong background in machining and/or welding in a lean environment.
  2. Graduate calibre.
  3. In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, including at least two of the following: machining, mechanical assembly, welding, and electronic/electrical assembly.
  4. In-depth knowledge of a variety of different welding processes and how each process affects different materials, including prevention of distortion and weld defects.
  5. Knowledge of inspection processes and how designs affect accuracy, time scale, and expected results, including the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  6. Ability to communicate clear written and verbal instructions to all manner of people of various knowledge bases.
  7. Work in an organized methodical manner to review designs and offer advice on improved manufacturability.
  8. Produce detailed manufacturing instructions for planners, operators, inspectors, and quality engineers to follow.
  9. UK national or have been a resident in the UK for a minimum of five years and meet the eligibility criteria to gain security clearance.
