Our Coding Team is comprised of experienced professionals who are eager to support and enhance individual skills and knowledge. They adhere to a regularly updated protocol to ensure a safe and efficient workflow. After completing the initial training, there may be opportunities to work remotely, provided you have access to your own computer.

To excel in this position, you should be comfortable with extensive data entry, summarization, and analysis to comprehend the implications of your coding tasks. A solid understanding of General Practice, along with a thorough grasp of medical terminology and the clinical coding process, will be essential, supported by both on-the-job and external training.

Key Responsibilities

The primary duty of the Coding Team is to manage the clinical documentation workflow (including patient discharge summaries and consultant clinic letters) to ensure that GPs only review items requiring their attention, while all other information is accurately recorded for future patient interactions. This involves following established protocols to maintain safety and efficiency.

Job Duties Include:

• Inputting letters and relevant correspondence into the Practice medical computer system, directing them to the appropriate personnel as per established protocols.
• Accurately and consistently entering coded information.
• Maintaining complete confidentiality at all times.
• Patient Information Management:
• Transforming relevant diagnostic and procedural details into alpha-numeric codes.
• Utilizing foundational knowledge of anatomical and physiological terms to identify relevant codes.
• Summarizing patient notes (both paper and electronic) within the clinical computer system.
• Gathering information, printing prescriptions, duplicating invoices, and processing financial claims for the provision of medications and equipment.
• Conducting annual inventory assessments in conjunction with the above tasks.
• Adhering to confidentiality protocols at all times.
• Performing additional duties as reasonably requested by your line manager, GPs, or Business/Practice Manager.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

Essential:

• Minimum of English GCSE C or equivalent.
• Proof of Medical terminology training.
• Evidence of Read Code training.

Desirable:

• Touch typing skills.
• Word processing certification.

Experience:

Essential:

• At least 12 months of experience in clinical coding.
• Familiarity with anatomical terminology.
• Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new applications.

Desirable:

• Experience in summarizing patient information.
• Background in Primary Care.
• Prior knowledge of SystmOne.
