Civil Liberties Paralegal

Duncan Lewis Solicitors is seeking a talented paralegal to join its Claims Against Public Authorities and Inquest department. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for conducting supervised casework and supporting other lawyers in the department.
Main Responsibilities- Conduct legal research and prepare cases for court hearings and conferences.
- Take proofs of evidence from clients and witnesses, and ensure that all necessary documentation is completed.
- Exercise financial control over work carried out, with particular regard to the conversion of work in progress and ensuring that billing targets are met.
- Ensure Quality Control compliance as defined in the Office Manual, dealing with noncompliance matters in an efficient and timely fashion.
- Participate in marketing events to ensure the continuous growth of the Department, and contribute to achieving the turnover target set for your Department.
- Draft legal documents, liaise with clients, and develop advocacy skills.
- Assist in dealing with complaints received on your cases, and participate in audit enquiries when applicable.
- A strong academic record and demonstrable experience relevant to this role, with legal aid experience being essential.
- Experience in Legal Aid and Litigation, ideally within Inquests/CAPA.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
- Familiarity with the Legal Aid Agency's online CCMS system would be an advantage.
- Legal skills and knowledge, negotiation skills, and analytical skills.
