About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Senior Data Engineer to join our newly established Football Analytics department at Norwich City Football Club. This is a full-time, permanent contract opportunity that can be based at our Training Centre in Norwich or remotely.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of the data infrastructure at Norwich City Football Club.
  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines within a cloud-based data warehouse solution.
  • Build and maintain API integrations to ingest new data sources, including optical and broadcast tracking, GPS, and event data from training and football matches.
  • Ensure high data quality by monitoring ETL processes, integrating data quality checks, and analyzing and eliminating errors.
  • Build internal applications and tools to aid internal data collection.
  • Continuously drive and improve the data infrastructure to ensure it remains future-proof and forms a stable basis for reliable analytics.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to gather feedback and requirements for feature engineering, model deployment, and other ETL improvements.
  • Debug and tune performance issues to ensure data is accessible in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a data engineer, machine learning engineer, or data scientist with heavy data engineering experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud-based data warehousing solutions such as AWS or Snowflake.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of R and Python.
  • Advanced knowledge of data orchestration tools.
  • Experience and deployment of data models in production environments.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of using SQL to query data.
  • Experience designing systems to store and query large data sets like tracking data.
  • Familiarity with common football data feeds.
  • Familiarity with data quality frameworks.
