Role Expectations

As a Corporate Legal Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Post Office by managing a diverse array of commercial dispute issues.

Reporting to the Head of Legal – Dispute Resolution & Brand Protection, the Corporate Legal Advisor will be instrumental in mitigating legal risks associated with the Post Office's operations, which include: handling county court claims initiated by customers linked to the Post Office's extensive network and diverse offerings; evaluating essential policies and operational guidelines; delivering legal counsel and assistance regarding potential or ongoing disputes with business partners or suppliers to facilitate effective resolutions, and aiding in training initiatives aimed at preventing future disputes.

This position demands a keen ability to identify and address strategic and operational legal challenges while providing clear, precise, and timely guidance on a wide range of complex and evolving issues, many of which may be unprecedented. A vital aspect of this role involves proactively collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that legal insights are integrated into all pertinent projects and matters. The ideal candidate will be adept at engaging with and managing stakeholders directly.

Furthermore, the Corporate Legal Advisor will contribute to the broader Legal team in achieving their strategic goals, necessitating close collaboration with their line manager, other Heads of Legal, the Legal Director, and colleagues throughout the Legal department.

Qualifications for Success
  • A minimum of years of post-qualification experience in civil litigation and dispute resolution, primarily acquired at a leading private practice law firm or as an in-house attorney operating at a junior to middle management level, with a proven ability to influence and communicate effectively; demonstrable leadership experience; the capability to establish and maintain strong and effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders; a solid understanding of court procedures and commercial law.
  • Ongoing compliance with professional conduct, ethics, and client care standards, and eligibility to practice as a solicitor or barrister in accordance with the relevant regulatory bodies.
