Job Summary

As a Physical Security Officer with the Ministry of Defence - Royal Navy, you will play a critical role in ensuring the security of HM Naval Base Clyde and its personnel. This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires a high level of expertise and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with physical security projects for the Nuclear Security Manager and provide subject matter expert support to other base projects as needed.
  • Review all MoD Police/MOD Guard Service Occurrence Reports, noting any trends in degradation or lapses in security.
  • Provide physical security advice on security aspects of projects, ensuring required standards of security are addressed at planning, briefs, construction, handover, and maintained in subsequent operation.
  • In the absence of the Nuclear Security Manager, deliver comprehensive briefs to the Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines prior to and during deployment.
  • Attend daily security briefings, capturing all key physical security issues across RNAD Coulport and brief at weekly meetings and other security briefings as directed by the Deputy Nuclear Security Authority (Coulport) and Nuclear Security Manager.
  • Conduct initial investigations into all breaches of physical security, including preparation of subsequent reports.
  • Manage security keys, excluding two-person rule keys, and conduct regular spot checks on physical security equipment across the RNAD Coulport estate.
  • Review the state of security systems, including CCTV, PIDS, and IDS, daily and work to remedy faults and mitigate risks.
  • Produce operational requirements for projects at RNAD Coulport where security is a stakeholder or DHNBS is the lead, in consultation with the Nuclear Security Manager.
  • Develop and produce a security asset register for RNAD Coulport, capturing all security equipment, its maintainer, and any contractual details.
  • Act as Assistant Atomic Liaison Officer (A/ALO) and POLARIS Sales Agreement Officer (PSAO).
  • Provide cross-site support as directed by the Deputy Nuclear Security Authority (Coulport).
  • Conduct any other physical security tasking as directed by the Nuclear Security Manager, Deputy Nuclear Security Authority (Coulport), or Nuclear Security Assistant Head at HMNB Clyde.
  • Contribute to the Security Assurance team's Nuclear Self Assurance process at RNAD Coulport, ensuring reports are written following assurance activities for the attention of the Deputy Nuclear Security Authority (Coulport).
  • Conduct Protective Security Assurance Visits as directed by the Deputy Nuclear Security Authority and Nuclear Security Manager.
  • Represent the Clyde Security Organisation at meetings where physical security advice is required.
  • Compile statistics for the Deputy Head Naval Base Security successes, opportunities, failures, threats (SOFT) report and daily stats for security system and defect reports.
Person Specification

The preferred candidate will be a security professional with working experience and application of security policy and physical security measures. A self-starter with the ability to work in a high-pressure environment to tight deadlines, they should be able to think on their feet and make decisions with limited information.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a variety of security-related courses.

A full UK driving licence would be desirable.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working.

This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in the office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
