Job Title: Epilepsy Specialist Nurse

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Epilepsy Specialist Nurse to join our Neurology team at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide expert nursing care to patients with epilepsy, working closely with healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standards of care.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Participate as an active member of the Neurology nursing team, accountable for your practice and role modelling the highest standards of care to all members of the team.
  • Lead in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care of epilepsy patients admitted to the ward or department in accordance with Trust and departmental protocols.
  • Initiate emergency treatment where necessary and co-ordinate other staff in this process.
  • Develop the knowledge of people with epilepsy and their carers, and healthcare professionals about the management of epilepsy and the symptoms associated with it.
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate a plan of care for each patient, referring to other members of the multidisciplinary team as necessary.
  • Complete and review epilepsy care plans.
  • Facilitate the early recognition of problems and initiate preventive measures and responses to maintain good health and reduce the need for emergency interventions and unplanned admissions to hospital.

Key Skills and Qualifications:
  • Current NMC registration
  • Teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Significant relevant experience in acute or community nursing
  • Knowledge of NICE guidelines in Epilepsy
  • Knowledge of Epilepsy management and treatment
  • IT literacy and knowledge of NHS IT systems
