Job Title: Structural Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineer to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our Dynamics department, you will be responsible for performing complex simulation and analysis of structures and mounting systems to ensure the continued functionality of our vessels after experiencing shock loading caused by Naval Underwater Explosion Events (UNDEX).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform simulation and analysis of structures and equipment subjected to dynamic loading
  • Provide structural design guidance at design reviews with respect to naval shock load cases
  • Follow internal procedures and develop evidence of compliance through written calculations and reports
  • Undertake peer review checking activities to approve methods and calculations
  • Lead and support the identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages
  • Lead technical development and research activities, methods, and acceptance criteria, liaising with industrial partners and external customers as necessary
  • Provide realistic programme status, identify problem areas, and implement agreed recovery plans
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers within the team
Requirements:
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree (or related STEM degree)
  • Understanding of the principles of structural mechanics and dynamics
  • Understanding of material strength properties (elastic and plastic properties)
  • Experienced in using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software
