Job Overview

The role may include advising patients and clients regarding applicable charges.

This is an entry-level position, and the successful candidate will be expected to pursue the Association of Accounting Technicians training qualification through an approved provider.

Preference will be given to current Trust employees, as well as those with 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status, including NHS staff at risk throughout the region, who can demonstrate relevant recent experience as outlined in the Person Specification.

Key Responsibilities

Provide financial support to the Finance Team Leader to fulfill the needs of Budget Holders and the Management and Financial Accounting teams, ensuring accurate monthly financial reporting for each Directorate in accordance with closing schedules.

This role is collaborative, and while specific tasks may not be performed by every team member on a regular basis, all members are expected to possess knowledge of and be able to cover each function.

Plan and organize straightforward tasks, some of which may be ongoing, ensuring that daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial deadlines are met.

Job Duties

- Provide financial assistance to the Financial Services Team, Business Advisors, Financial Account, and other finance personnel.

- Support the Management Accounts function in assisting budget holders with Directorate Finance matters.

- Address routine inquiries from Trust Fund Managers and external organizations, escalating complex issues to the line manager as necessary.

- Handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.

- Complete month-end financial tasks, including data analysis and error identification, utilizing various problem-solving approaches.

- Accurately rectify budget and expenditure discrepancies, producing necessary journals.

- Reconcile simple control accounts and ensure correct coding of income and expenditure items.

- Ensure timely and accurate invoicing of income and the proper handling of credit notes.

- Direct non-purchase order invoices to the appropriate budget holder for approval and ensure timely follow-up on credit notes.

- Respond to complex queries from suppliers and budget holders, seeking line manager guidance when needed.

- Generate regular financial and management reports, suggesting process improvements and implementing agreed changes.

- Input financial data into computerized systems and maintain complex financial spreadsheets.

- Participate in departmental training and provide induction for new or less experienced staff.

- Manage cash transactions responsibly.

- Assist patients and clients with non-clinical inquiries, ensuring adherence to departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Essential

- 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at Grade C or above, or equivalent experience.

- NVQ Level 3 or AAT Intermediate Level or equivalent experience.

Desirable

- A Levels or equivalent experience.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

- Strong numeracy skills.

Desirable

- Previous finance experience.
