Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and passionate perinatal mental health practitioner to join our expanding Perinatal Mental Health Team at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to work with expectant and new mothers with severe and complex mental health problems.

About the Role

As a Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner, you will be responsible for managing a complex caseload, assessing, planning, and evaluating care for individuals with mental health-related difficulties. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver evidence-based interventions and promote positive risk-taking to improve quality of life and maximize occupational performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for the management of a complex caseload, including specialist assessment, care planning, and evaluation of individual treatment plans.
  • Participate in the setting of quality standards, including auditing, monitoring, and reviewing practice in line with current clinical guidance and policy.
  • Administer medication, complying with relevant Trust procedures and NMC Guidance.
  • Assess patient's individual care needs, develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care.
  • Deliver a range of interventions in accordance with the agreed plan of care and Pathway guidance, including pharmacological and psychologically informed interventions.
  • Complete and contribute to robust risk assessments and risk management plans, promoting positive risk-taking to improve quality of life and maximize occupational performance.
  • Maintain an effective reporting system by observing and reporting verbally and in writing on patient condition.
  • Utilize agreed outcome measures to review the effectiveness of interventions, as part of the care planning and evaluation process.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Registered mental health Nurse or Occupational Therapist qualification.
  • Post-registration experience, evidence of formal courses and training at diploma/degree level.
  • Leadership qualification, BSc degree in nursing/social work/occupational therapy or equivalent level, and qualification in providing supervision, coaching, or non-medical prescribing.
  • Experience of working with adults experiencing mental health-related difficulties, including perinatal mental health needs and knowledge of demographic risk factors for this client group.
  • Experience of working with people who have difficulty engaging with services and have complex mental health needs, as well as experience of working in community settings and making decisions autonomously.
  • Ability to assess, plan, coordinate, and manage people with mental health problems in a community setting, integrate care delivery across multidisciplinary/multi-agency teams, and lead/contribute to CPA/SAP processes.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health NICE Guidelines, understanding of the principles of the Care Programme Approach and Community Care Act, and ability to demonstrate understanding of Equality and Anti-discriminatory practice.
