We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Porter to join our Portering Service at the University of Reading. As part of the Estates department, the Portering team plays a vital role in providing exceptional service to the University community, its visitors, and guests.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Providing a high level of customer service and support to students, staff, and visitors.
  • Assisting with minor office moves, collecting exam papers, and building security.
  • Supporting major university events, such as Open days, Graduation, and external conferences.
  • Working closely with other Estates teams, Building Support, Cleaning, and Security to ensure continuity of service.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A current full clean United Kingdom Driving licence and be prepared to drive company vehicles.
  • Recent experience of working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of heavy lifting processes and using equipment to facilitate this.
  • Availability to work a rotating shift pattern.
  • IT literacy with knowledge and experience of using MS Office.
  • A willingness to work flexibly and use initiative to prioritize work.
  • Excellent command of English.
  • A good level of literacy and numeracy.
  • A good level of general health.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.
