Team Overview

The 24 Hour London Programme, spearheaded by the Night Czar, is committed to ensuring that all facets of London’s nighttime economy are thoughtfully planned and supported. We collaborate with various stakeholders, both within and outside City Hall, to enhance our understanding of the city’s nighttime dynamics through comprehensive data analysis and evidence-based strategies.

Our focus is on fostering resilience among nighttime businesses, promoting innovation, and advocating for best practices. We aim to address the challenges faced by the 1.3 million nighttime workers who contribute to the city's vibrancy and functionality.

Role Responsibilities

The primary objective of this role is to oversee the scoping, planning, and execution of specific policies and initiatives, which may evolve over time. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Borough and Stakeholder Engagement programme.
  • Managing the Nightlife Taskforce and Fund.
  • Implementing the Business Friendly Licensing Programme.
  • Advancing the Women's Night Safety Charter.

You will be responsible for engaging a diverse array of stakeholders across the nighttime industries, local boroughs, law enforcement, and transport authorities. Your role will involve facilitating discussions that influence policy changes aligned with the Mayor's strategic objectives.

Daily Activities

Your typical day will involve:

  • Initiating and leading collaborative external groups and networks.
  • Managing relationships with senior stakeholders and recruiting new partners.
  • Overseeing stakeholder interactions with boroughs, the nighttime sector, law enforcement, and transport authorities.
  • Coordinating with consultants to ensure the successful delivery of the 24 Hour London programme.
  • Developing and scheduling various programmes, including engagement initiatives and safety charters.
  • Implementing a communications strategy for the 24 Hour London programme.
  • Preparing briefings and reports for the Mayor and relevant stakeholders.
  • Responding to inquiries regarding nighttime policies and cultural issues.
  • Staying informed about legislative changes impacting the nighttime economy.
  • Supporting management in addressing scrutiny from the Assembly.
  • Promoting equality of opportunity and addressing the diverse needs of London’s communities.
  • Managing resources and partnerships in accordance with organizational policies.
Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:

  • A strong understanding of the nighttime industries, particularly the music sector.
  • Experience in developing relationships with key stakeholders in the nighttime and music sectors.
  • A proven track record of implementing strategic initiatives within the nighttime economy.
  • Experience in delivering effective communications and campaigns related to nighttime policies.
  • Knowledge of relevant policy issues, including high street regeneration, business support, cultural industries, safety, and sustainability.
