We are responsible for the stewardship and preservation of over 9000 acres of land across more than 90 diverse sites and nature reserves, in addition to operating 2 visitor centres.

However, we recognize that we cannot achieve our mission in isolation.

Thus, we collaborate closely with local communities, businesses, organizations, and individuals to safeguard and rejuvenate wildlife and natural habitats, striving to create a more vibrant Kent for the benefit of both people and the environment.

The Opportunity:
Full Time, 24-month fixed-term contract

We are in search of a skilled community engagement coordinator to contribute to our Chough Reintroduction project in Dover at Kent Wildlife Trust.

This distinctive position will involve working with local communities to foster significant positive change for nature in Kent. You will play a vital role in facilitating coexistence between people and wildlife in Dover, Kent.

Your responsibilities will center around connecting with and empowering local communities. You will employ community engagement strategies to unite individuals for their own benefit and that of wildlife.

At Kent Wildlife Trust, we are committed to promoting nature's recovery across the landscape and within the communities we serve. We understand that for nature to be restored on a large scale, we need a greater number of advocates for the environment.

You will cultivate relationships with, empower, and enable communities to collaborate with KWT in co-designing landscape restoration and species reintroduction initiatives.

Your efforts will empower individuals to take initiative through the design and execution of a series of facilitated and sustainable activities, leading to a ripple effect of community action for nature and climate.

About You:
You are a personable, passionate, and organized individual. You excel at building relationships within communities and engaging with local leaders. You are dedicated to fostering community-driven change and enabling local residents to take action for nature.

This role offers you the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on nature's recovery and to contribute to our vision of protecting 30% of land and sea by 2030.

We seek someone who is ready to take on responsibility and demonstrate courage and integrity. If you believe this role aligns with your aspirations, we welcome your interest.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, develop, and facilitate initiatives within designated communities. This will include overseeing community liaisons, maintaining strong connections with community leaders, and enabling these leaders to share insights and experiences that foster self-sustaining, peer-led networks.
  • Support the empowerment of underrepresented and disconnected groups within their local communities, collaborating with them to enhance community cohesion and collaborative efforts.
  • Assist communities in their development, facilitating project growth and training opportunities through both local and national resources.
  • Advocate for a community engagement approach, sharing skills, experiences, knowledge, and insights about community organizing within Kent Wildlife Trust and the broader Wildlife Trusts movement.
  • Promote Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Justice in all aspects of your work.
  • In collaboration with the Science Unit and Monitoring & Evidence Team, utilize social science to assess, evaluate, and enhance engagement and community organizing efforts, ensuring they yield positive outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships between the Trust and its partners, as well as other organizations, to reach broader and more diverse audiences, foster effective partnerships, and achieve meaningful impact.
  • Advocate for both local and national campaigns through community networks, coordinating with communications contacts to maximize their reach and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the project team and people & places department to inform funding proposals, ensuring that the initiatives undertaken align with our strategic objectives.
  • Ensure that any community engagement efforts are, where appropriate, sustainable for the future.
We are unable to recruit anyone who does not have a right to work in the UK.

Benefits:
We offer a comprehensive and enhanced benefits package.

Recognizing the wellbeing challenges posed by the climate and nature crises we face as a society, we provide flexible work options, wellbeing initiatives, and opportunities for professional development.

Regardless of your career stage, our extensive benefits package at Kent Wildlife Trust can be a significant factor in your decision to join our team.
