Job Description

Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a highly accomplished leader to fill the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation). This critical role requires a visionary individual to drive the university's research strategy, foster innovation, and promote knowledge exchange.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and Implement Research Strategy: Design and execute a comprehensive research strategy that aligns with the university's goals and objectives.
  • Maximize Research Performance: Oversee the development and submission of high-quality research proposals, ensuring excellence in research governance and integrity.
  • Commercialization and Impact Generation: Lead the commercialization of research findings and ensure significant economic impact through strategic partnerships and collaborations.
  • Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) Implementation: Chair the College's Innovation and Commercialisation Board and oversee the implementation of the KEF.
  • Staff Management: Manage all staff within the research, innovation, and knowledge exchange functions, ensuring effective leadership and high performance standards.
Requirements:
  • Strategic Planning and Budget Management: Proven expertise in strategic planning, budget management, and project planning.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements in a university setting.
  • Research Management Experience: Experience of managing a Research Selectivity or Research Audit Exercise.
  • International Research Networks: Successful record of developing international research networks and partnerships.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven leadership experience in inspiring staff and achieving high performance standards.
