Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner

Orthopaedic Team

37 hours / Permanent

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner to join our Orthopaedic Physiotherapy service. This team is dedicated to delivering physiotherapy assessment and treatment to a diverse range of patients in our orthopaedic wards, with the primary objective of assisting individuals in regaining independent physical function.

As a Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner, you will be assigned a delegated patient caseload by the qualified physiotherapist. For your caseload, you will be expected to work autonomously, assessing patient needs, modifying treatment plans, and delivering care independently. This includes progressing patients, reassessing, and discharging within your scope of practice. Active engagement with the multidisciplinary team on your ward is a crucial aspect of this role.

This position is integral to the delivery of the extended day Early Rehabilitation after Surgery (ERAS) service within the elective orthopaedic wards.

You will also assist the physiotherapy team with various non-clinical responsibilities, including equipment ordering, referring patients to primary care teams, and aiding in the collection of statistical information for patient activity audits. Additionally, you may support band 2 and 3 physiotherapy support workers.

The variety of orthopaedic conditions and surgeries encountered, along with the necessity for excellence in clinical reasoning and teamwork in this role at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, will provide the successful candidate with extensive and in-depth experience as a Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner.

Physiotherapy Services promote staff development through appraisal processes, supervision, and continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities.

This role includes a regular weekend working rota, with weekend shifts balanced by weekdays off.

Candidates must demonstrate evidence of clinical experience in various areas, ideally including Orthopaedics, and should possess relevant and current experience as a Band 3 therapy support worker or as a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner.
