Position Overview

Role: Clinical Podiatrist - Weekly Hours: Flexible

Become a vital member of our dedicated team that is transforming podiatric care within the community.

Your primary responsibility will be to deliver a high-quality podiatric service for the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

In this role, you will develop personalized care plans for patients presenting a diverse range of clinical conditions, including acute and chronic neuropathies, long-term illnesses, vascular issues, and wound care management. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to manage their own patient caseload, initially with guidance, focusing on specialized care for individuals with diabetes, rheumatological concerns, and biomechanical challenges.

Newly qualified professionals will receive comprehensive supervision and mentorship during their initial months.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver a consistently high standard of podiatric care to patients registered with the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

Implement tailored care strategies for patients with various clinical needs, including:

  • Acute and chronic neuropathies
  • Chronic diseases
  • Vascular complications
  • Wound management

Manage your own caseload with initial support, ensuring the provision of specialized care for patients with:

  • Diabetes
  • Rheumatological issues
  • Biomechanical problems

New graduates will benefit from mentorship and supervision during their onboarding period.

Communication Responsibilities

  • Collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and coordinate with other professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Engage with patients and their families to gather clear diagnostic information, particularly when barriers such as hearing loss or anxiety are present.
  • Provide appropriate foot care guidance to patients and their caregivers.
  • Promote principles of equality, diversity, and patient rights.
  • Encourage healthy lifestyle choices among patients.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of patient interactions.
  • Participate actively in departmental and multi-disciplinary meetings.

Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Review and adjust treatment plans to meet patient needs.
  • Engage in clinical triage as necessary.
  • Advise patients and their families to help achieve treatment goals.
  • Deliver evidence-based treatments across various settings, including home visits.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures as required.
  • Collaborate with Community Specialist Podiatrists for high-risk patients.
  • Work with GPs and district nurses for patients needing frequent care.
  • Determine patient readiness for discharge and develop self-management plans.
  • Facilitate timely referrals to other services when necessary.
  • Support patients and their families during incidental interactions.

Planning and Organizational Duties

  • Manage your daily workload effectively to meet job demands.
  • Maintain personal and clinical schedules.
  • Handle emergencies and adapt to changes in planned activities.
  • Be prepared for flexible working hours, including weekends and evenings as needed.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Ensure stock levels are monitored and secured.
  • Maintain a clean and safe clinical environment.
  • Conduct risk assessments for home visits.
  • Oversee patient transfers safely.
  • Participate in mandatory training related to health and safety.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations at all times.

Policy and Service Development

  • Engage in policy review and implementation.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Human Resource and Leadership Duties

  • Provide cover for colleagues as needed.
  • Supervise assistant staff and oversee their clinical tasks.

Teaching and Training Responsibilities

  • Participate in foot health education for patients and staff.
  • Supervise podiatry students during their placements.
  • Support the training of other healthcare staff.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions.

Data and Information Management

  • Complete treatment notes to the Trust standard.
  • Input data into the Trust's IT systems post-patient contact.
  • Assist in collecting data for projects or surveys.

Research and Development

  • Engage in clinical governance and quality assurance activities.
  • Participate in research trials and audits as required.
  • Commit to continuous professional development.
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices and evidence-based care.

Physical Skills and Effort

  • Demonstrate the ability to assist patients with mobility challenges.
  • Conduct risk assessments for home visits.

COVID-19 vaccination is encouraged to protect yourself and others in healthcare settings. While it is not a condition of employment, we support vaccination efforts.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check, with associated costs deducted from the first salary.
