Position Overview

Podiatrist - Weekly Hours

Become a vital member of our dedicated team that is transforming podiatric care.

In this role, you will deliver a comprehensive and high-quality podiatry service for the community.

You will develop tailored care plans for patients presenting a range of clinical conditions, including acute or chronic neuropathies, long-term illnesses, vascular issues, and wound care management. The successful candidate will manage their own patient caseload with initial support, focusing on specialized care for individuals with diabetes, rheumatological conditions, and biomechanical challenges.

Newly qualified professionals will receive guidance and mentorship during their initial months.

Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver a high-quality podiatry service to clients associated with the organization.

- Develop and implement personalized care plans for patients with diverse clinical needs, including neuropathies, chronic conditions, vascular issues, and wound care. You will also be responsible for managing your own caseload with initial assistance, providing specialized care for patients with diabetes and other complex needs.

- Newly qualified professionals will be supported with supervision and mentorship during their early months.

Communication Responsibilities

  • Collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and engage with other professionals to ensure quality care across various settings.
  • Communicate clearly with patients and caregivers to gather essential diagnostic information, particularly in cases of hearing loss or anxiety.
  • Provide appropriate foot care guidance to patients and their families.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and patient rights.
  • Encourage a healthy lifestyle among patients, advocating for nutritious diets, physical activity, and smoking cessation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely treatment records for all patient interactions.
  • Actively participate in departmental and multi-disciplinary meetings.

Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and adjust treatment plans to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Engage in low-level clinical triage.
  • Offer guidance to patients and caregivers to support their treatment goals.
  • Deliver clinically effective treatments based on evidence-based practices in various settings, including home visits.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Community Specialist Podiatrists for high-risk patients and those with complex needs.
  • Work in conjunction with GPs and nursing staff regarding patients requiring frequent care.
  • Assess when patients have reached their rehabilitation potential and provide discharge plans.
  • Ensure timely referrals to additional services when needed.
  • Assist patients and their families during incidental contacts.

Planning and Organizational Duties

  • Manage your daily workload to meet the demands of the role.
  • Maintain a personal and clinical diary.
  • Handle emergencies and adapt to changes in the schedule.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be required, including evenings and weekends.

Resource Management Responsibilities

  • Ensure stock levels are maintained and secure.
  • Uphold a clean and safe clinical environment to minimize patient risk.
  • Conduct risk assessments for home visits.
  • Oversee the safe transfer of patients during treatment.
  • Attend relevant training sessions.
  • Manage medical devices and report any issues.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations at all times.

Policy and Service Development Responsibilities

  • Stay informed about and contribute to changes in policies and service developments.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Human Resource and Leadership Responsibilities

  • Be adaptable to service needs and provide coverage for colleagues as needed.
  • Supervise assistant staff and oversee their clinical work.

Teaching and Training Responsibilities

  • Engage in foot health education for patients and caregivers.
  • Mentor podiatry students during their placements.
  • Support the placement of other healthcare staff and assist new colleagues in adapting to the workplace.
  • Ensure participation in mandatory training sessions.

Data and Information Responsibilities

  • Complete treatment notes according to organizational standards.
  • Input data into the organization's IT system after patient interactions.
  • Assist in the collection of information for projects or surveys.

Research, Development, and Audit Responsibilities

  • Participate in clinical governance and the development of standards and protocols.
  • Engage in research trials and audits as required.
  • Commit to continuous professional development.
  • Maintain a professional portfolio.

Physical Skills and Effort

  • Demonstrate the ability to assist patients with mobility challenges.
  • Conduct risk assessments for home visits.
