Patient Evaluation:

Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients prior to, during, and following chemotherapy treatments, assessing overall health, medical history, and potential side effects.

Treatment Administration:
  • Administer chemotherapy medications and other prescribed treatments, ensuring accurate dosages and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions and side effects during and after treatment sessions. Provide education to patients and their families regarding chemotherapy, potential side effects, and self-care strategies to manage symptoms effectively.
  • Collaborate with oncologists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to plan and coordinate patient care, ensuring a holistic approach to treatment.
  • Offer emotional support and counseling to patients and families, addressing concerns and providing guidance throughout the treatment journey.
  • Prepare and set up chemotherapy medications, utilizing protective equipment and adhering to safety standards to prevent contamination.
Post-Treatment Care:

Oversee post-treatment care, including monitoring for delayed side effects, managing symptoms, and scheduling follow-up appointments.

  • Adhere to stringent safety and infection control protocols to safeguard patients and staff from potential hazards associated with chemotherapy.
  • Advocate for patients' needs and preferences, ensuring their voices are prioritized in the treatment process and that their comfort and well-being are central to care.
  • Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team, engaging in case discussions, treatment planning meetings, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies or critical situations related to chemotherapy treatment, including managing allergic reactions or severe side effects.
Qualifications for the Oncology Infusion Nurse:
  • Completion of a specialized chemotherapy or oncology nursing certification program is mandatory.
  • Prior experience in oncology or chemotherapy administration is highly preferred.
  • Experience in a clinical environment, particularly in administering intravenous medications and managing patient care, is essential.
  • Expertise in administering chemotherapy, managing intravenous lines, and safely handling cytotoxic drugs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of chemotherapy medications, protocols, and their potential side effects.
