Outreach Coordinator for Gypsy Roma Families
3 months ago
Job Title: Gypsy Roma Traveller Outreach Worker
Salary: C1 £26, £28,770.00
Hours: 37 per week
Contract: Fixed term contract for 12 months
Location: Technorth
We are pleased to announce an opening for the position of Family Outreach Worker, aimed at assisting our Czech Slovak community.
The selected candidate will join the Gypsy Roma Traveller team, working within the Children's Social Work Service. Proficiency in Czech Slovak is essential, as you will provide timely support to families to mitigate the risk of children entering care.
National statistics indicate that children of Roma heritage face significant barriers in accessing services and often require social care intervention. Those on the 'edge of care' are defined as children at immediate risk of being taken into care.
By engaging with families at the earliest opportunity, the Family Outreach Worker will foster relationships within the Roma community, aiming to decrease the number of children requiring care services.
The ideal candidate will communicate effectively in Czech/Slovak and collaborate closely with the assigned social worker. Your responsibilities will include delivering intensive support to families, addressing professional concerns, and ensuring families receive appropriate assistance promptly. You will facilitate understanding of any issues by sharing information and encouraging positive changes for the safe upbringing of children. The overarching goal is to enhance relationships and promote open communication, utilizing a high support, high challenge approach to help children remain in their homes and communities.
As a Gypsy Roma Traveller Outreach Worker, you will be dedicated to supporting a community that often encounters barriers to service access, particularly regarding safeguarding issues for children. You will advocate for family strengths, ensuring that all children and families are safe, healthy, and able to achieve their full potential. This includes involving families in decision-making processes to collaboratively address challenges and identify solutions.
This role entails managing a small caseload and maintaining regular communication with an assigned social worker to provide intensive family support. This may encompass various parenting support activities, assisting families in recognizing and understanding professional concerns, and removing obstacles to collaboration with other key professionals.
Leeds City Council is one of the largest employers in the region, with over 14,000 staff members. We are committed to recruiting and developing talented individuals who align with our values and ambitions.
About You
As a Gypsy Roma Traveller Outreach Worker, you will possess:
- Fluency in Czech Slovak
- A solid understanding of the challenges faced by the Roma community
- Awareness of cultural sensitivity
- The ability to work restoratively, applying our High Support High Challenge principles
- A flexible approach to providing parenting support in challenging situations
About the Role
This role is both challenging and rewarding, situated within a small yet effective team. Our cases are diverse, allowing our workers to showcase a variety of skills and strategies to meet the needs of a community grappling with ongoing issues related to poverty, school attendance, health, and parenting. The effectiveness of this role is rooted in our responsiveness to Leeds' objectives of ensuring safe homes for children and alleviating family poverty.
As our next Family Outreach Worker, you can anticipate receiving regular support from peers and management, access to ongoing professional development, and the opportunity to join a well-established and respected service.
What We Offer You
We take pride in providing an exceptional employee experience, with benefits that include:
- A competitive salary and annual leave entitlement, plus statutory holidays
- Membership in the West Yorkshire Pension Fund with generous employer contributions
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements, subject to service requirements
- A clear career pathway and opportunities for continued professional development
- A range of staff benefits to enhance your wellbeing and financial stability
How to Apply
Please complete the online application form and upload your CV. Ensure that you review our guidance for further advice, checking your information carefully and completing all sections before submission.
