Position Title: Special Educational Needs Instructor

Location: Phoenix Learning & Care Group

Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.

Employment Type: Permanent

At Phoenix Learning & Care Group, we believe in the fundamental right of every individual to receive a meaningful education. As a Special Educational Needs Instructor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that neurodiverse young adults, aged 16 to 25, have access to the best educational opportunities tailored to their unique needs.

Our educational framework is not solely focused on traditional qualifications; instead, it is designed around a comprehensive Post 16 Study Programme. This includes a diverse learning curriculum, practical work experiences, essential skills in mathematics and English, and various enriching activities that prepare our learners for adulthood. Many of our students may face social and emotional challenges, making it essential to foster life skills, communication abilities, and emotional expression through a curriculum that affirms their neurodiversity. You will thrive in our inclusive communication environment.

We provide extensive training and support to ensure that our learners receive the highest quality educational experience. This includes opportunities for curriculum development and collaboration with our integrated therapies team to enhance learner support.

In our classes, which typically consist of 5 to 7 students, you will have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with each learner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating classroom activities, including planning, instructing, and evaluating learning outcomes, particularly for your designated class.
  • Tracking and documenting progress, both academically and in relation to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) objectives.
  • Engaging closely with learners to keep them motivated and inspired to achieve their full potential.
  • Creating inspiring learning experiences, whether in the classroom or within the community, through one-on-one or small group interactions.
  • Collaborating with Learning Support Assistants to ensure effective support for learners.
  • Customizing a curriculum tailored to the individual needs of each learner, adapting your teaching style to support varying goals, from independence to employment readiness.
  • Identifying when a learner's progress may be at risk and implementing strategies for improvement, demonstrating a commitment to understanding each young person's unique needs.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated patience, compassion, and resilience, as you will be working with neurodiverse learners whose learning behaviors and communication needs may vary.
  • Strong communication skills are essential for effective interaction with learners, parents, and other stakeholders, as well as for contributing to various resources.
  • Experience with EHCPs and the ability to shape a curriculum based on individual learner outcomes.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to navigate the dynamic nature of the educational environment.
  • A genuine passion for educating individuals with diverse needs.

Benefits:

  • Annual Leave: Enjoy a structured work schedule with paid time off during non-term weeks.
  • Pension Plan: Participate in a pension scheme with contributions from both you and the organization.
  • Professional Development: Access to comprehensive learning and development opportunities to enhance your skills.
  • Employee Discounts: Benefit from exclusive discounts through our employee benefits platform.
  • Wellbeing Initiatives: Prioritize your mental health with access to support services and wellness programs.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme: Take advantage of a program that allows you to purchase a bicycle at a reduced cost.
  • DBS Coverage: We will cover the cost of your enhanced DBS check, as required for this role.

After completing one year of service, you will also be eligible for our Medicash scheme, which covers a variety of health and wellness expenses, including immediate access to a GP. Additionally, you will receive life assurance equivalent to twice your annual salary and enjoy further discounts at various retailers.

As part of our commitment to safer recruitment practices, successful candidates will undergo pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and reference validation.

At Phoenix Learning & Care Group, we take pride in our diverse workforce and strive to create an inclusive environment for all team members, ensuring that everyone can bring their authentic selves to work without fear of discrimination.
