Medical Microbiologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Doctor to join our team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. As a Consultant Doctor, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and leading a team of healthcare professionals in the departments of Microbiology and Virology/Molecular Pathology.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will have a strong background in medical microbiology and virology, with experience in clinical sample reporting, quality assurance, and infection control. You will be responsible for liaising with clinicians, supporting IPC with routine interpretation work, and participating in outbreak and root cause analysis. Additionally, you will be involved in training and education of infection trainees and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities- Reporting of clinical samples in virology and microbiology
- Liaising with clinicians for priority samples
- Quality assurance and quality improvement projects
- Supporting IPC with routine interpretation work
- Participating in outbreak and root cause analysis
- Training and education of infection trainees and colleagues

Person SpecificationThe ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical microbiology and virology, with experience in clinical sample reporting, quality assurance, and infection control. You will be a registered medical practitioner with the General Medical Council and have a strong commitment to patient care and education.
