Capital Projects Manager Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Capital Projects Manager to join our Estates Team at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting and supporting the Property Development Manager in the delivery of MTC building projects and other property-related projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Report to the Property Development Manager on the progress of all property developments, including budget, programme, and key issues arising.
  • Work with the Property Development Manager and other stakeholders to prepare briefs and tender contracts as required.
  • Monitor the progress of project teams, contractors, and address issues as required.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with architects, contractors, consultants, county and borough councils, and staff within the MTC.
  • Project manage capital schemes for MTC-owned and leased premises within budget, with support from the Property Development Manager.
  • Ensure government funding claims are submitted correctly and in a timely manner, and manage the procurement process to ensure compliance with statute and best value for money.
  • Manage capital development and redevelopment projects from inception to completion, up to a capital value of £2 million, and support the Property Development Manager with new build projects.
  • Organise design and technical consultant appointments, and advise on MTC standards of design and specification.
  • Maintain records of projects and receive maintenance and operational information at practical completion to handover to the Estates FM Team.
  • Produce regular reports on project performance and financial control.
Requirements:
  • Education to degree level in a related construction industry discipline, with 3-5 years post-qualified experience.
  • At least 3 years experience in a project or administrative role, including 1 year in a specialism and/or administrative/cost management/project management role.
  • Ability to develop CAD drawings for capital projects.
  • Knowledge of construction forms of contract and contract administration (JCT & NEC).
  • Experience of working with senior management and leaders.
  • Effective communication skills to engage a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work within agreed parameters and with minimal supervision.
  • Developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven team worker with ability to motivate others.
  • Aware of own strengths and development needs.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Numerate and knowledge of Excel.
  • Prioritisation skills with ability to manage multiple strands of work simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, enthusiastic, and committed.
  • Able to develop and maintain positive relationships.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • IT skills (word, excel, email).
Desirable Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
  • Broad-ranging experience in project management/contract management.
  • Knowledge of capital development processes/RIBA plan of work.
  • Knowledge of statutory regulations.
  • Knowledge of developing schedules of works for feasibility and pricing purposes.
  • Knowledge of sustainability-related projects and targets.
