Job Summary

The Mechanical Project Manager will be responsible for managing a specific Contract Team, comprising Projects Engineers, Surveyors, Buyers, CAD and administrative support staff from contract award to completion of the final account and end of defects liability period.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Contract Engineering functions, ensuring professional standards are adhered to.
  • Attend and chair internal pre-contracts meetings to ensure effective handover of estimating information.
  • Work within set financial budgets and financial targets for awarded contracts.
  • Supervise and monitor staff performance, ensuring adherence to company systems and regulations.
  • Exercise financial management checks, including reporting on contract financial status.
  • Provide advice to Company Directors on contractual limitations and developments.
  • Attend site meetings to check progress and take remedial action.
  • Check and distribute incoming post for contracts under control.
  • Agree labour planning and resources for Contracts with the Contracts Director.
  • Assist Projects Engineers on day-to-day contract management.
  • Ensure efficient use of Group facilities and implement health and safety measures.
  • Manage Company Operative Incentive Scheme and client liaison.
  • Attend internal Credit Control meetings to report on contract financial position.
  • Provide holiday cover for Projects Engineers and liaise with Surveying Manager.
  • Monitor design and drawing work completed by externally employed design practices.
  • Observe Company Health and Safety Plan and involve in staff appraisal and assessment.
  • Complete checks on contract activities to identify adherence to company systems.
  • Fulfill the role of Appointed Person for site management of electrical safety.
  • Build relationships with customers and protect company interests.

Requirements

  • Overall knowledge and understanding of HVAC/electrical systems and installation methods.
  • Ability to plan ahead, co-ordinate and prioritise workloads.
  • Good communication, people management and motivational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet set deadlines.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and be methodical.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand specifications and drawings.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, AS400.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety within the industry.
  • Good leadership skills.
  • High level of discretion when handling confidential information.

Measurement of Success

  • Production, timing and accuracy of reports, installation and procurement programmes.
  • Knowledge of financial status of projects under control.
  • Ensuring all correspondence is actioned.
  • Consistently good financial returns on projects.
  • Professional attitude and appearance.
  • Control of labour and subcontractors.
  • Positive feedback from clients.
  • Good motivation and morale of the Project team.
