Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Dog Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for providing attentive care for small and medium-sized dogs in our Paws & People Program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional care for dogs, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being at all times.
  • Oversee the daily activities of dogs, including playtime, feeding, and rest periods, to create a balanced and happy environment.
  • Monitor the behavior and health of dogs, addressing any concerns promptly and appropriately.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary environment in all dog areas, including regular cleaning and disinfection of play areas, feeding stations, and rest areas.
  • Interact with dog owners to provide updates on their pets and address any questions or concerns.
  • Assist with the intake process, including checking vaccination records, verifying eligibility requirements, and assessing dog behavior.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for both dogs and cafe patrons.
  • Uphold Big City Dog's policies and standards, including the right to refuse dogs at our discretion to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants.

Requirements

  • A Level 2 qualification regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) in animal care or a related field.
  • Proven experience working with dogs in a professional capacity, such as in a kennel, veterinary practice, or dog daycare setting.
  • Strong understanding of dog behavior, health, and welfare, with the ability to handle a variety of dog breeds and temperaments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with dog owners, cafe patrons, and colleagues.
  • A genuine love for dogs and a passion for providing high-quality care.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
