About Us
Founded in 1987 by a dedicated group of foster parents, we emerged as the UK's pioneering independent foster care agency. With over 30 years of fostering expertise, we continue to thrive.
The founding members recognized the need for specialized support for looked after children, particularly those with challenging beginnings. They placed the child at the heart of their mission, surrounding them with a comprehensive array of support services. This is the essence of PIS: Programme of Integrated Services.
Over the years, our support network has expanded to include a diverse range of professionals, including social workers, fostering advisors, educators, and therapists. These experts collaborate with our foster parents and the children they care for, assisting them in navigating even the most complex situations. This collaborative approach is what we refer to as a 'therapeutic model' of fostering, a concept we were instrumental in developing.
Requirements
Polaris Community is currently on the lookout for a qualified and seasoned Social Worker or Senior Social Worker who is passionate, dedicated, and understands the vital role of foster parents and their contributions. We encourage our Social Workers to adopt a cooperative approach with foster parents to facilitate meaningful and relevant oversight of placements. Experience in collaborating with foster parents as professional partners and working within a multidisciplinary environment is essential, as is possessing a full driving license and having unrestricted access to your own vehicle.
This role is demanding and encompasses both a quality assurance function to uphold high standards and a training role for prospective and current foster parents. You should be an exceptional report writer and capable of adhering to strict deadlines.
- Hold a Social Care England recognized qualification in Social Work or equivalent
- Previous experience in children and families social work
- A thorough understanding of all relevant legislation concerning children's services and related publications
- Full driving license with unrestricted access to your own vehicle
Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to foster parents within a manageable caseload that allows for a high level of supervision
- Conduct regular supervision for assigned foster parents, facilitating and monitoring their practices while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards
- Collaborate with children, young people, foster parents, and other professionals, local authorities, and stakeholders to ensure full participation in assessment, planning, review, and decision-making related to safeguarding and child protection
Polaris Community is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff to share this commitment.
