About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Echocardiography Training Lead to join our team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Cardio-Respiratory Department, you will be responsible for leading and mentoring colleagues in the development of our Echocardiography Service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Autonomously manage, co-ordinate and direct the training pathway associated with the Echocardiography Service.
  • Lead and mentor colleagues working towards successful BSE accreditation.
  • Ensure that performance of duties and clinical practices conforms to agreed national policies and procedures.
  • Perform routine and advanced non-invasive techniques/investigations of the department.
  • Provide complex reports as an independent practitioner in echocardiography.
  • Assist Consultant Cardiologists in routine and complex procedures.
  • Observe and record cardiac physiological measurements.
  • Perform first line resuscitation with defibrillation.
  • Provide immediate real-time diagnostic information to medics.
  • Assist in audit procedures of the service.
  • Assist in diagnostic studies utilising TOE, pericardiocentesis, bubble contrast and stress echo studies.
  • Perform follow-up procedures as a competent, independent practitioner.
  • Provide an out-of-hours on-call service.
  • Assist in piloting new service developments in echocardiography.
Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

  • Appropriate Science Degree (or equivalent).
  • ILS (minimum).
  • BTEC/HTEC (MPPM) or equivalent.
  • BSE adult accreditation.
  • Registered member on the Council of Clinical Physiologists.

Desirable

  • ALS or equivalent.
  • Teaching certificate/Assessors Award.
  • Post-grad Studies in relevant field.

Knowledge & Experience

  • 2 years experience in Echo, including TOE, Bubble/Contrast studies.
  • High level of specialist knowledge in areas of non-invasive cardiology.
  • Knowledge across all aspects of Cardiology.
  • Advanced broad base of theoretical and practical specialist knowledge in cardiology.
  • Specialist knowledge in legislation for COSSH, RIDDOR, Health and Safety in invasive cardiology.
  • Proficient in teaching other grades of staff in all aspects of technical cardiology.
  • Proven experience in planning and organisation of staff training, meetings and conferences.
