Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic nurse who is eager to enhance their expertise within the realm of clinical research.

Our department manages a comprehensive array of studies, necessitating committed personnel who are passionate about supporting our research participants and advancing scientific knowledge.

This role is situated within the Division of Neurology, Mental Health, Ageing, and Neurodegenerative Disorders, serving the Thames Valley and South Midlands region.

Our diverse team comprises research nurses, practitioners, and administrative staff, all collaborating closely with clinicians to facilitate and execute research initiatives across various patient demographics. Our team members hail from a variety of professional backgrounds, including Nursing, Mental Health, Psychology, Biochemistry, and the NHS, among others.

The Clinical Research Network: Thames Valley and South Midlands is one of the local Clinical Research Networks within the NIHR Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN). The NIHR CRN serves as the clinical research delivery arm of the NHS in England, dedicated to supporting the swift establishment and effective management of studies, enabling researchers to gather the robust evidence necessary for enhancing treatments for NHS patients. These local Networks are pivotal in driving clinical research delivery performance in the area and promoting the significance of clinical research within the NHS at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

As a research staff nurse, you will play a crucial role in facilitating the research journey for participants involved in clinical trials. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluating, planning, and executing care for clinical trial participants during their research visits.
  • Accurately collecting and documenting data and maintaining records of care as required.
  • Providing support across a variety of research studies and demonstrating flexibility to work within a broad portfolio.
  • Assisting in the recruitment and retention of study participants.

You will be expected to meet the expectations and capabilities assigned by the Sponsor, Chief Investigator, or Principal Investigator as outlined in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the Research Governance Framework.

Collaborating effectively with OUH service delivery colleagues will be essential to ensure high-quality care and experiences for participants.

You will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and caregivers participating in clinical studies, primarily focusing on Ageing, Dementias, and Neurology.

Additionally, you will work in partnership with the clinical trials team and the broader multidisciplinary team to manage your own caseload of clinical trial patients.
