Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

Clinical coding is a critical function within our organization, and our team is responsible for gathering data on every inpatient who utilizes our services, examining all facets of their healthcare journey. Our work is vital for the effective administration of the organization and is directly influenced by our Experienced Approved Clinical Coding Trainer and two Approved Clinical Coding Auditors, ensuring comprehensive audit, validation, and training support.

Job Duties

- Effectively manage, organize, and prioritize your workload to ensure accuracy and completeness in meeting targets and organizational deadlines.

- Identify and analyze error patterns, reporting these to management along with proposed solutions.

- Cultivate essential business relationships within the Clinical Management Groups (CMGs), establishing yourself as the coding expert to ensure clinical engagement with divisional stakeholders.

- Serve as a specialist advisor and liaison to the CMGs, ensuring effective communication between coders and clinicians, and attending necessary business and governance meetings.

- Engage with senior clinicians to discuss and resolve complex coding discrepancies, ensuring that coded data accurately reflects patient care episodes, thereby securing appropriate funding for the organization.

- Address and resolve complex inquiries in collaboration with Senior Clinicians, utilizing advanced motivational and negotiation skills, along with expert knowledge of the subject matter.

- Provide guidance and support to all team members, participating in team events and representing the team as needed.

Qualifications

Essential Training

  • Hold a National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ).

Desirable Training

  • Management qualification.

Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical coding experience within an NHS environment, covering multiple specialties.

Desirable Experience

  • Familiarity with using Encoder software.
