We are seeking a committed Fire Safety Management Officer to become a vital part of our Estates and Facilities team. This position plays a crucial role in safeguarding our community through effective fire safety management.

Overall Purpose of the Role:

As a Fire Safety Management Officer, you will utilize your military background to supervise structural fire safety and its upkeep, collaborating closely with the Principal Fire Officer. Your responsibilities will ensure adherence to all statutory requirements while supporting the fire safety strategy and the objectives of the Facilities Management and Compliance (FMC) service.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Duties:

  • Provide expert advice to staff and tenants regarding compliance with fire safety regulations.
  • Maintain effective communication with Local Authorities and Fire and Rescue Services to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Advise design teams on fire safety considerations during construction and engineering projects, ensuring alignment with legal standards.
  • Keep detailed records of fire safety activities, including Fire Risk Assessments and firefighting equipment, and develop comprehensive databases.
  • Conduct fire investigations as necessary.
  • Collaborate with maintenance services on specialized contracts related to fire alarms and suppression systems, managing these contracts as needed.
  • Work alongside the Principal Building Surveyor to create and implement fire strategies that inform future maintenance and condition assessments.

Development Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Principal Fire Officer in formulating and enhancing fire safety strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues, suppliers, and professional partners to foster continuous improvement in operations and services.
  • Promote a culture of ongoing improvement in daily activities across the organization.
  • Participate in budget planning to ensure cost-effective delivery of fire safety services and contract management.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to effectively cover for the Principal Fire Officer when required.

General Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all actions align with environmental sustainability objectives.
  • Comply with policies related to Health & Safety, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and Information Governance.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma (or equivalent) in Fire Safety.
  • Significant experience in providing fire safety guidance on development and maintenance projects.
  • Prior experience in a fire prevention or development role within the Fire Service, with a comprehensive understanding of fire safety legislation and relevant laws.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE).
  • Health and Safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Certificate).
  • Trainer-training qualification or extensive experience in training others.
  • Awareness of environmental sustainability practices in the workplace.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and Information Governance in a workplace context.
