Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Position Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to present an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated professional to join our team.
Role Responsibilities
We are in search of a highly skilled and experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner to oversee the Cancer Care ACP team.
This role offers a unique chance for a seasoned ACP to integrate into the senior management team of cancer care, leading a diverse group of both trainee and qualified ACPs across various sectors of the care group. We seek an individual who is passionate and committed to enhancing the service and professional community, positioning us at the forefront of advanced practice in cancer care.
Cancer Care represents one of the largest care groups within our organization, characterized by compassion, dynamism, and a high profile. It encompasses a broad spectrum of specialties, from the treatment of patients undergoing SACT and Radiotherapy to the complexities of Acute Oncology and Palliative care. We take pride in being a regional center for Bone Marrow Transplant and are excited to offer Car T treatment. Additionally, we serve as the primary treatment center for teenagers and young adults facing cancer.
About Our Organization
As one of the largest acute teaching trusts in England, we provide numerous learning and development opportunities to help you achieve your career aspirations.
Non-clinical roles may involve a blend of on-site and remote work. Specific details and flexible working arrangements can be discussed during the interview process. Employees at UHS have access to a variety of NHS discounts, a minimum of 35 days of paid leave (pro rata), and a generous pension scheme.
Southampton is a desirable location for both living and working, situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct train services to major cities. The New Forest National Park and the stunning beaches of the Jurassic coast are also nearby. The cost of living in the city is approximately 20% lower than in major metropolitan areas, complemented by 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
This role is particularly suited for agile working, allowing for a combination of on-site and remote tasks. We are open to discussing flexible working hours. Please feel free to discuss your needs during the interview, and we will explore what is feasible for the role and service.
Key Responsibilities
As a clinical expert, you will manage a clinical caseload and support your team’s development, representing advanced practice at both the care group and organizational levels. A proven history of effective leadership and change management is essential, along with the ability to collaborate across professional and departmental boundaries. This position carries significant responsibilities regarding governance in advanced practice, requiring a proactive problem-solving approach to ensure service continuity and quality improvement initiatives.
The retention and ongoing development of the Cancer Care ACP team will be a crucial aspect of this role, including the supervision and support of those pursuing their educational ACP pathways. You will work collaboratively with sub-specialty teams to ensure that advanced practice is not only embraced but also progressively developed for both the roles and the individuals within them. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing an Advanced Practice strategy that aligns with both regional and national standards to ensure excellence.
Our inpatient services are delivered across six ward areas, totaling 113 beds, along with two-day case units for providing treatments in an ambulatory setting, and an Acute Oncology Service for patients requiring acute assessment and triage. SACT is also provided in outreach locations and in partnership with a commercial entity in patients' homes. Outpatient clinics are available in various locations across the trust, including joint clinics with other specialties.
Cancer Care is supported by a team of Oncologists, Haematologists, and Specialist Palliative Care Clinicians, extending services to peripheral cancer units. The Trust-wide Hospital Specialist Palliative Care and End of Life Care services are also hosted within Cancer Care.
