As a key member of our photo team, you will work closely with our Asia and Europe bureaus to deliver high-quality visual content across all coverage areas. Your expertise in breaking news situations, complex photo assignments, and agency and social media research will be invaluable in this role.

Responsibilities:

* Work quickly and accurately on breaking news and enterprise stories, collaborating with editors, visual teams, and section chiefs.
* Drive visual coverage in the international time zone, anticipating photographic and other needs as stories develop.
* Assign photography, working with photographers, editors, and reporters to tell narrative, investigative, breaking news, and enterprise stories on all platforms, including mobile and print.
* Follow department guidelines and safety protocols in working with photographers and subjects.
* Promote a diverse and exciting group of photographers and subjects, with an eye to building new audiences for our journalism.
* Pitch visually innovative and original projects and approaches to digital story production, demonstrating an understanding of the different platforms and audiences.
* Work with platform and off-platform editors to surface the work strategically across all platforms.
* Maintain a budget effectively, working with your Manager.

Requirements:

* At least 5 years of experience in a photo editing role, with a passion for good journalism and current events.
* A strong network of international photographers and sources, spanning Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
* Proven deep research skills and experience with news gathering and research tools, including Storyful, Factiva, and Satellite research.
* Knowledge of web tools and programs, including content management systems, Photoshop, PhotoMechanic, video editing tools, FTP, and social media tools.
* Some knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is useful.
* Motivation to work independently as well as with a team.
* Strong organizational and communication skills and an ability to balance short and long-term projects across different sections.
* The initiative to take on and learn new tasks in a fast-moving environment.
