Job Title: Patent Paralegal

Boots Opticians is seeking a highly skilled Patent Paralegal to join our Intellectual Property team. As a key member of our legal function, you will provide end-to-end support to the Director of Intellectual Property and IP team, focusing on formalities-based activities related to Patents and Designs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and file UK, EP, and PCT patent documents and forms, including filings, national phase entry, validations, and responses to office actions.
  • Monitor the central Patents mailbox and incoming correspondence, docketing, and updating files as necessary, liaising with attorneys.
  • Manage the docket(s) of attorneys, maintaining due dates, monitoring deadlines, generating reports, and preparing data for IP portfolio reviews and governance.
  • Handle Patent and Design renewals, monitor Patent watch notifications, obtain cost quotations, cost reporting, and invoice handling.
Requirements:
  • 2+ years' experience handling patent formalities in private practice or industry.
  • Detailed knowledge of UK, EP, PCT, and foreign patent formalities, laws, and rules.
  • Proficient in IP rights management software, docketing tools, external intellectual property databases, and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to accurately manage and interrogate IP data and conduct research on patent-related matters.
