PhD Studentship in Zika Virus-Induced Neuropathogenesis

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our research team at the University of Cambridge, Department of Pathology. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr Nerea Irigoyen to investigate the role of long non-coding RNAs in Zika virus-induced neuropathogenesis.

Project Overview

Zika virus can cause severe brain damage and developmental disorders in infants. Recent studies have shown that long non-coding RNAs play a crucial role in neurodevelopment and may be involved in Zika virus-induced neuropathogenesis. Our project aims to characterise the expression and function of these RNAs during infection and explore their potential as therapeutic targets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of long non-coding RNAs and their role in Zika virus-induced neuropathogenesis
  • Develop and implement novel experimental approaches to study RNA function and regulation
  • Collaborate with our research team to design and execute experiments, collect and analyse data, and interpret results
  • Present research findings at international conferences and publish papers in top-tier scientific journals
Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated and talented individual with a strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field. The successful candidate will have:

A Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant fieldExcellent laboratory skills and experience with molecular biology techniquesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and execute experimentsExcellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to present research findings and collaborate with colleaguesWhat We Offer

The University of Cambridge offers a competitive stipend and tuition fees for the duration of the PhD programme. The successful candidate will also have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and a dynamic research environment.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates. The University of Cambridge is committed to diversity and inclusion and is an Athena SWAN Silver Award holder.
