Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team at Sussex Police. This role is crucial in ensuring that our fleet of vehicles is equipped to meet the operational demands of our service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conversion Management: Lead the planning and execution of vehicle modifications, ensuring that all vehicles are tailored to meet operational requirements.
  • Equipment Integration: Supervise the installation of specialized police equipment, ensuring the safety of both operators and the public through your technical expertise.
  • Cost Management: Investigate and implement cost-effective strategies for the installation and removal of emergency equipment, keeping pace with advancements in vehicle technology.
  • Collaboration: Partner with internal teams and external vendors to facilitate the recycling and reuse of equipment during vehicle conversions.
  • Compliance Oversight: Validate vehicle modifications to ensure adherence to legal standards and budgetary constraints, protecting both users and workshop personnel.
  • Prototype Innovation: Create and develop prototype solutions utilizing advanced technologies such as 3D printing and CAD software.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive technical records and documentation related to vehicle equipment, ensuring precision and efficiency.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough quality audits and inspections to maintain engineering standards and ensure safety.
  • Policy Development: Formulate and disseminate policies for safe vehicle installations, informed by industry best practices.
  • Technical Support: Provide expert guidance to vehicle technicians, aiding in their professional growth.
  • Budget Oversight: Manage and monitor vehicle conversion budgets, identifying and justifying expenditures.
  • Driving License: Hold a valid UK driving license and be prepared to travel to various locations as required.
  • Qualifications: City & Guilds Vehicle Technician Cert 1,2&3 or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in IT office applications, 3D printing software, and wiring diagrams, with experience in MS Visio, Word, and Publisher.
  • Communication: Exhibit strong communication skills with stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively in a team environment or independently, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Specialist Knowledge: Possess in-depth understanding of installing police equipment, including telemetry and radio frequency communications.
  • Training: Experience in mentoring and training others in specialized component design.
  • Organizational Skills: Display exceptional organizational abilities with the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Experience in conducting safety audits with a solid understanding of relevant regulations.
