Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care in outpatient clinics, specifically pre- and post-op for cataract surgery, YAG capsulotomy, AMD review, and IVI services. The appointee will complement our existing staff and take responsibility for the day-to-day functioning of the clinical service, working closely with clinical and managerial colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert ophthalmic care to patients in outpatient clinics
  • Conduct pre- and post-operative assessments for cataract surgery, YAG capsulotomy, AMD review, and IVI services
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and managerial colleagues to ensure smooth operation of the clinical service
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day functioning of the clinical service
Requirements
  • Registered with the GMC
  • Basic Medical Qualification (MBBS or equivalent)
  • Part 1 FRCOphth
  • RCOphth Refraction Certificate
  • BMedSc/BA/BSc/MSc/MD/PhD
  • At least three years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent) in a specialty training programme or equivalent experience in Ophthalmology
  • Recent experience in ophthalmology within the NHS
  • Able to use the slit-lamp indirect ophthalmoscopy and check intraocular pressures
  • Ability to interpret OCT and ultrasound images
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Ability to use Medisoft or Medisight electronic patient record system
  • Teaching and Training experience
  • Experience working in cataract pre-assessment clinics
Working Arrangements

This role is primarily based at Southampton and Poole, but travel to other SpaMedica Hospitals in the region may occasionally be required.
