The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate effectively within a team, demonstrate adaptability, possess strong communication skills across various settings, and appreciate the distinctions between hospital and primary care environments.

A solid understanding of high-risk patient management, particularly concerning diabetic foot complications and conditions related to Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal disorders, is crucial. This includes expertise in wound care management. The podiatry team also plays a vital role in areas such as haemophilia, vascular health, renal care, nail surgery, and inpatient podiatric services, as well as training and research activities.

The chosen candidate will receive mentorship and will have the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge by engaging with multidisciplinary teams, research groups, and the specialized podiatry team within an acute care setting.

Key Responsibilities

1. Participate in a dedicated team, delivering high-quality clinical care with a focus on foot tissue viability.

2. Exhibit a high level of postgraduate experience, managing caseloads of patients at risk for foot ulceration due to diabetes, rheumatology, immunosuppression, and other factors.

3. Serve as a liaison with referring agents regarding clinical assessments, proposed treatments, outcomes, and further investigations, ensuring effective communication with primary care providers and multidisciplinary teams.

4. Facilitate and direct training on foot care within hospital wards, which may include:

a) Lecture-based sessions

b) E-learning modules

c) Collaboration with the Training and Development team and nursing educators

d) Delivery and evaluation of training programs

5. Collaborate with specialist nurses, consultants, and Tissue Viability nurses at the ward level as necessary.

6. Engage in the Diabetic Limb Salvage Service (MDT) clinic, assisting with wound management.

7. Participate in activities related to the Hot Foot Phone, a dedicated line for urgent diabetic foot inquiries.

8. Conduct assessments and provide appropriate treatment for lower limb conditions in outpatient and inpatient settings, including preoperative evaluations and postoperative care.

9. Offer routine foot care to both inpatients and outpatients as required.

10. Ensure compliance with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies, protocols, and strategic objectives, aligning with the goals of the Podiatry Department and the broader organization. Adhere to guidelines set forth by the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC), Department of Health, and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

11. Provide mentorship to students and colleagues from Podiatry, Physiotherapy, and other healthcare disciplines.

12. Be familiar with and manage the administrative and clerical responsibilities of the Podiatry Department.
