Opportunity

Brunswick Group, a critical issues firm, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our Global Japan team as an Account Director. This individual will play a key role in advising clients on navigating critical situations, including engaging with institutional investors, regulators, the media, employees, shareholder activists, NGOs, and other key audiences.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of business issues and current affairs related to Japan, as well as experience working in a Japanese business, media, or government setting, or in a role in the UK with exposure to the Japan market. They will be able to demonstrate excellent written research and analysis for business audiences in English and Japanese, and have a proven track record of delivering high-quality advisory documents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver strategic analysis and recommendations to clients on market trends and events.
  • Manage the development of high-quality client documents, including drafting, proofing, editing, and version control.
  • Guide executives and assistants in effectively supporting accounts.
  • Support pitches and other new business activities.
  • Develop a solid understanding of different sectors and specialist offers.
  • Ensure all logistics for client meetings and events are executed smoothly.
  • Begin to develop an advisory voice informed by research, experience, and awareness of market trends and events.
  • Build and deepen relationships with client team peers.
  • Support colleagues unfamiliar with Japanese business culture to ensure client readiness.
  • Nurture a network amongst peers inside and outside the firm, providing valuable insight for the firm and for clients.
  • Support internal and external marketing activities of the Global Japan team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Highly knowledgeable on business issues and current affairs related to Japan.
  • 2-5 years' experience working in a Japanese business, media, or government setting, or in a role in the UK with exposure to the Japan market.
  • An understanding of business, finance, and politics, with a genuine interest in the Japanese business industries.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent written research and analysis for business audiences in English and Japanese.
  • Proven project and/or program management experience.
  • A dynamic self-starter with a strong work ethic.
  • High level of attention to detail and an intellectually rigorous, client-service attitude.
  • An experienced team-worker who prefers to work in a collegiate way.
