Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced instructor to deliver classroom and technical training that will prepare students to successfully pass the EPA 608 Universal certification exams. This is a non-credit, 42 instructional hours course for adult learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on instruction and practical training to prepare students for the EPA 608 Universal exams. Training should focus on exam objectives.
  • Prepare, teach, and evaluate assigned instructional materials, including course outlines, syllabi, student handouts, hands-on exercises, assessments, and training aids.
  • Evaluate students to ensure they are meeting learning objectives and are prepared for the certification exams.
  • Assist in class scheduling and program management.
  • Advise program Manager of needed supplies and materials for the class.
  • Maintain a hazard-free environment and practice safety in lab(s) or classroom.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications and the ability to use computer for providing class presentation.

Essential Functions:

As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Practical application of the principles of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
  • Proficiency in installation and service of HVACR equipment.
  • Demonstrate the skills necessary to teach the fundamental and advanced concepts of installing and servicing HVACR equipment.
  • Ability to design, supervise, and evaluate lab assignments to demonstrate student proficiency.
  • Excellent organizational skills and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex subjects in a clear and engaging way.
  • Ability to work with groups of varying ages, skills level, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work individually as well as on a team.
  • Must be a self-starter and innovative thinker.

Required Qualifications:

  • Combination of education and industry credentials to demonstrate content expertise.
  • Must hold active EPA 608 Universal certification.
  • Two (2) years' experience in the field of HVAC/R.
  • One (1) year's experience teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree.
  • Previous experience in an educational or training setting.
  • Journeyman HVAC license.
  • Experience teaching adult learners.
  • Experience in curriculum design and development.
  • Experience teaching 'boot camp' style training courses.
  • Prior experience teaching in higher education.
  • Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
