St. James's Place is seeking a skilled Internal Controls Specialist to join our Group Risk function. As a key member of our team, you will drive enhancements to our internal control approach to meet evolving regulatory expectations, including the 2024 UK Corporate Governance Code reforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evolving, documenting, and embedding methodologies to support an uplifted Internal Control Framework, including 1st and 2nd line of defence control testing methodologies.
  • Leading, guiding, and supporting the business to deliver activities that strengthen the identification of key controls and the design/operation of controls.
  • Improving internal controls awareness and adoption of the Controls Framework throughout the business, ensuring sufficient knowledge and understanding of the importance of the process and our reporting responsibilities.
  • Developing and guiding the risk management system and reporting functionality, ensuring that it accurately and efficiently facilitates regulatory/financial reporting requirements.
  • Providing controls specialist input and progress updates for various governance fora, including the Internal Control Project and Group Risk and Audit Committees.
Requirements:
  • Financial Services experience, with a background of operational risk.
  • Experience of designing and applying risk and control management frameworks, including RCSAs.
  • Practical knowledge of implementing or operating internal control frameworks, including control assessment and testing methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build influential relationships and strong negotiation skills to monitor and challenge key risk and control assessments and mitigating activity.
  • Highly organized with a flexible approach, ability to handle a range of tasks and adapt to changing priorities with ease.
