About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Therapeutic Support Worker to join our team at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality mental health services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the coordination and delivery of brief psychological interventions, including graded exposure plans and cognitive behavioral therapy strategies.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, working closely with clients, carers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide coaching and support in psychological skills, such as breathing techniques, challenging thoughts, and self-soothing.
  • Contribute to the development of referral guidelines and exclusion criteria for clients who may benefit from our services.
  • Identify and initiate timely onward referrals to other services as needed.
  • Support the development of brief psychological interventions and templates for formulation-driven support.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, carers, and colleagues, using motivational interviewing skills and adapting communication style as needed.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, clients, carers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals and work within a legal framework with clients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • Attend relevant external and internal courses to extend knowledge and gain relevant skills.
Person Specification
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent level of knowledge and experience, plus knowledge of specific mental health conditions, forms of therapy acquired through training and experience.
  • Good general education up to GCSE equivalent.
  • Psychology degree (2.1 or above; BPS accredited).
Desirable Criteria
  • Short course or in-house training in cognitive behavioral therapy or dialectical behavioral therapy.
Experience
  • Clinical experience of working on a one-to-one basis with people with mental health problems.
  • Experience of supporting service users in problem-solving, grading tasks, and structuring daily routines.
  • Clinical experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Knowledge and Skills
  • High-level communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate sensitive information to service users, carers, and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance.
  • Able to contain and work with high levels of distress from service users.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to travel across CPFT locality and have access to a vehicle.
