PhD Studentship in Sustainable Concrete Materials

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at Concrete4Change, a leading Nottingham SME, to develop new, sustainable, advanced concrete materials with carbon negative footprints. The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary environment, incorporating organic and polymer chemistry, materials science, and leading-edge data analysis, including machine learning/AI approaches.

Key Features:
  • PhD training that will build upon the skills of your master's degree in chemistry or materials chemistry.
  • Training based in the unique Carbon Neutral Laboratory at the University of Nottingham (UoN) in partnership with Concrete4Change and the School of Architecture Design and the Built Environment at Nottingham Trent University (NTU).
  • Unique PhD training programme: 2 days in Concrete4Change, 3 days in UoN/NTU per week aimed at accelerated 'real World' deployment of research results.
  • Involvement with the wide UK community dedicated to achieving 'green' concrete for a sustainable future in record time.
  • CO2 sequestration in concrete and production of high value chemicals from CO2 are considered the only environmental solutions with a positive ROI.

The studentship will be available from October 2024 as a 4-year PhD with stipend at EPSRC standard rates starting at £18,622 per year with awards increasing every year, typically with inflation.
