Platform Engineering Manager

We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineering Manager to lead the creation and maintenance of tools and infrastructure that enable our product engineers to work more efficiently and securely. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in developing standards and best practices, ensuring that our platform is robust, scalable, and dependable.
This is a Hybrid role with regular visits to our office, requiring flexibility and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues. You will be responsible for delivering the following key objectives:
Key Responsibilities- Build and Maintain Central Infrastructure: Develop and maintain the central infrastructure that is foundational to our platform, including AKS clusters and API gateways.
- Establish Standards and Best Practices: Create and maintain standards and ways of working that enable us to manage key non-functional requirements, such as security and cost optimization.
- Promote a Culture of Accountability: Create self-serve platform tooling that makes product engineers more efficient, reducing reliance on the engineering team.
- Collaborate with Product Engineers: Work closely with product engineers to understand their pain points and prioritize the platform engineering backlog.
- Participate in Architecture Design: Participate in architecture design sessions to ensure our platform capabilities align with business goals.
- Enable Product Engineers: Collaborate with teams, run knowledge sharing sessions, and maintain clear documentation to enable product engineers to build on the platform successfully.
- Supervise and Mentor a Team: Supervise and mentor a team of IT professionals, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring continuous skill development.
- Communicate Effectively: Communicate effectively with stakeholders across the organization to identify needs, propose solutions, and provide updates on IT initiatives.
- Stay Abreast of Emerging Technologies: Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend and implement innovative solutions that provide a competitive edge.
- Education: Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or demonstrable knowledge of infrastructure and automation-related technologies.
- Experience: Experience in a similar role at a company with a distributed cloud architecture.
- Skills: Experience with containerization and Kubernetes, implementing effective CICD pipelines, and associated scripting and automation skills.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of DevSecOps and creating secure delivery pipelines.
- Decision-Making: Ability to make pragmatic, risk-based decisions that balance commercial objectives with non-functional requirements.
- Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
