Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Village Chef to join our team at St Monica Trust. As a key member of our catering team, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day food and beverage provision for our village café, as well as catering for bespoke events and themes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the preparation and serving of food and beverages in the village café, ensuring high standards of quality and presentation.
  • Cook and prepare bespoke food options for residents and customers, including meals, parties, and events.
  • Ensure events are well catered for, meeting customers' needs and preferences.
  • Engage with residents and customers to meet their needs and preferences, actively seeking and responding to feedback and suggestions.
  • Work with the Head Chef and Catering Team Lead to implement changes and improvements.
  • Manage the Front of House service for the kitchen, promoting good customer service and making improvements to the dining experience.
  • Responsible for day-to-day temperature checks, controls, and hygiene practices, including labelling food, allergens, waste disposal, and general catering/kitchen cleanliness.
  • Plan, stock, and order food and beverages using the Caternet system.
  • Complete internal and external audits and activities using the Trust's systems, relating to health and safety, HACCP, and COSHH.
  • Deputise for the Head Chef where required.
  • Line manage a team of Hospitality Assistants, including recruitment, managing absence and performance, and associated activities on the Trust's people system.
Requirements
  • Diploma Level 2 in Food Production/Catering (or equivalent).
  • Experience of supervising others.
  • Experience and knowledge of special dietary requirements and modified diets, advising on nutrition, hydration, and dietary needs.
  • Previous experience working within a budget.
  • Experience working in a busy and fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Experience working in a café or restaurant.
  • Experience of stock ordering and management.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety legislation and best practice.
  • Good standard of IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and bespoke systems.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we offer a competitive salary, 22.5 hours per week, working every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday between 7.30am and 3.30pm, with a 30-minute unpaid meal break.
