London, Greater London, United Kingdom Legal & General Full time

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Actuarial Manager to oversee our Retirement Division (LGRI). This position offers a competitive salary between £80,000 and £100,000, depending on experience, along with a 12% car allowance and a comprehensive benefits package. In this role, you will be tasked with the actuarial evaluation and validation of our innovative tool designed for calculating member options, including the formulation and assessment of the foundational actuarial factors. Your responsibilities will include establishing an independent actuarial testing and controls framework for a system currently under development. This position is integral to the post-sale actuarial function of our Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) bulk annuity operations and provides opportunities to extend actuarial support to the broader PRT business. Key Responsibilities:
  • Delivering actuarial insights into the framework design for testing a new tool aimed at calculating member options.
  • Utilizing actuarial methodologies to ensure the cost neutrality of all options, incorporating GMP equalization.
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues across PRT to establish timelines for reviewing system enhancements, such as valuing new benefit structures or acknowledging legislative changes.
  • Upholding the highest standards of rigor and accuracy to ensure the reliability of our automated systems across various scenarios.
  • Conducting an annual assessment of the actuarial methods used in determining actuarial factors.
  • Supervising team members involved in the testing processes under your oversight and the annual review.
  • Ensuring that the pricing of member options is structured to provide fair value to clients.
  • Assessing any significant changes to assumptions that support member options to determine if these should influence pricing adjustments.
  • Regularly evaluating the fair value of member options using relevant metrics and indicators to demonstrate ongoing value to clients.
  • Ensuring that the pricing of member options does not create unnecessary barriers for clients to assess value.
  • Identifying aspects of pricing member options that could pose a risk of foreseeable customer disadvantage, particularly for groups at risk of not receiving fair value.
  • Adhering to appropriate governance protocols when implementing pricing modifications.
Qualifications:
  • A qualified Life/Pensions Actuary.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Defined Benefit pension schemes and associated valuation techniques.
  • Significant experience in technical actuarial roles and/or system development.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Effective time management skills with the capacity to meet tight deadlines for project completion.
  • Coding experience, preferably in C#, is advantageous but not mandatory.
Benefits:
  • Competitive Salary + 12% Car Allowance.
  • Generous pension contributions, with L&G matching personal contributions up to 5% and providing an additional contribution of 6%, increasing by 1% each April until reaching a further 10% from April 2028.
  • Opportunities to participate in our annual performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes.
  • Life assurance and private medical insurance.
  • Income protection and 27 days of holiday, plus public holidays, with options to buy and sell holiday.
  • Competitive family leave policies.
  • Participation in our electric car scheme, allowing employees to hire a new electric vehicle through tax-efficient salary sacrifice.
  • Access to various discounts for our products and at numerous high street stores and online.
  • Redesigned workspaces that foster connection and collaboration, prioritizing employee wellbeing.
