We are seeking a dedicated Data Protection Officer to collaborate with senior leadership and essential stakeholders, ensuring that our organization comprehends and complies with Data Protection regulations. This position will encompass all operational areas, engaging with various group entities to guarantee adherence to data protection standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acting as the designated DPO for the Information Commissioner's register of Data Controllers.
  • Interacting with the Information Commissioner's Office (or relevant Supervisory Authority) regarding inquiries and investigations.
  • Advising the controller or processor and their personnel on their data protection responsibilities.
  • Overseeing compliance with data protection laws and PECR, including the allocation of duties, reporting of discrepancies/security vulnerabilities, and corrective action strategies.
  • Maintaining a registry of data custodians for various information sets and educating them on their obligations (what constitutes data, its usage, and access rights). Keeping data flow diagrams updated.
  • Monitoring and managing systems and controls to ensure compliance with applicable data protection laws and regulations.
  • Reporting to the board on the efficacy of the organization's data protection measures and suggesting enhancements.
  • Ensuring that Data Protection laws are understood by key stakeholders and the broader organization through guidance, training, and support to promote a data protection culture.
  • Providing technical assistance and support on Subject Rights Requests, including subject access requests.
  • Serving as the primary contact for data security incidents and managing all data protection grievances and breaches.
  • Ensuring that appropriate notifications are established for all data processing activities, both internal and external.
  • Confirming that data processing agreements are in place with third parties handling personal data.
  • Conducting regular data protection audits across all manual or digital processes, whether internal or outsourced.
  • Collaborating with IT to ensure ongoing data retention and cleansing practices are integrated into systems managing personal data in line with our Data / Information Retention policies.
  • Offering practical, high-quality, and timely advice across the organization to ensure compliance with DPA, GDPR, PECR, and emerging legislation.
  • Establishing the policy for conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments and providing guidance and support to the Company regarding their execution.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • In-depth technical expertise in data protection laws, including the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Data Protection Act 2018, and PECR.
  • Strong understanding and experience of how Data Protection aligns with business objectives.
  • Knowledge and practical application of compliance with UK & EU Data Protection & Privacy regulations.
  • Experience in managing incidents and breaches.
  • Proven track record in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust policies.
  • Experience addressing practical aspects of data protection compliance (e.g., preparing fair processing information, privacy notices, profiling, handling subject access requests, and regulatory notifications).
  • Experience in conducting compliance reviews/audits related to information management.
  • CIPP/E certification or equivalent is preferred.
